It is difficult to identify the smallest ant species in the world because there are some species of ants that scientists have not yet identified. Still, the Carebara Atoma species are thought to be one of the world’s tiniest ants. Worker ants within this species do not grow much larger than one millimeter long, which is extremely small. In fact, it is about half of the size of sugar ants that commonly invade homes. Sugar ants can grow anywhere between two and fifteen millimeters in size.
