Did you know that gophers helped to restore the ecosystem of Mount Saint Helens? You see, because gophers live underground, many were able to survive the ash. After the explosion, gophers continued to do their thing and create those telltale mounds of dirt. Those mounds of fresh dirt on top of the barren ash made areas where seeds could grow and plants flourish.
