The Culprits

Paper Wasps: It is often easy to spot a paper wasp nest. All you need to do is look at the eaves of your home. That is one of their favorite places to build a nest. You will notice a papery like nest that is covered in wasps. As the year progresses, the nest will increase in size. During late summer and early fall, the wasps go into hyperdrive because they need to find as much sugar and meat as possible so they can feed the newly developing queens. That is the time when they become the most aggressive. While paper wasps do love the eaves of your home, they will build their nest anywhere that is protected from rain. Our technicians have found them in unused barbeques, playground equipment, sheds, and inside of wall voids.
Yellow Jackets aka Meat Bees: Unlike paper wasps, yellow jackets are always angry. They will sting you for absolutely no reason. If you get too close to their nest, they will attack you with a whirlwind of rapid repeat stingers. Yellow jackets will land on you, and then proceed to sting and bite you. Yellow jackets love to build their nests underground in old rodent dens. We have also found them in sprinkler boxes, inside of wall voids, and inside of old couches left inside of sheds. You should exercise extreme caution around yellow jacket nests. For some reason, their stings more often cause allergic reactions.
Bald-Faced Hornet: You can easily identify a bald-faced hornet nest, because it will look like a papery ball hanging from trees, utility poles, or inside of your shed. Bald-faced hornets have a white and black pattern on their face and body. Like yellow jackets, bald-faced hornets are super aggressive. If you get too close to a bald-faced hornet nest, you could have anywhere from 100 to 400 hornets ready to sting you.
