About The Thief Ant

Ants are definitely thieves. Think about it. Thief ants are small. They are among the smallest ants you will find. If you have a metric ruler nearby, grab it and look at the 2 millimeter mark and you the length of a thief ant. If you don’t have a ruler, you can look at a toothpick. The body of a thief ant is about the thickness of an average toothpick. Their small size gives them the ability to get into a lot of trouble. Indeed, they get their name because thief ants will gladly build their colonies next to another type of ant colony. Using their tiny size, they sneak into the other ants colony ant steal their food, larva, and eggs. If a thief ant colony gets into your home, their small size will allow them access to a lot of different food packages. They can and will build their nests inside the wall voids of your home.

The Signs of an Infestation

Thief ants love to eat grease and can be seen making trails to and from grease spills. They also love sugar. The unfortunate thing about thief ants is they look a lot like pharaoh ants. One of the telltale signs of a thief ant is their wandering pattern. They will often travel in lines everywhere, and not just to and from a food source.
