Bed Bug Information

As bed bug numbers continue to increase across America, the likelihood of getting an infestation in your home is becoming more and more likely. All a bed bug needs to get into your home is something to crawl on or into. As expert hitchhikers, bed bugs climb inside purses, laptops, luggage, backpacks, briefcases, gym bags, and even on your clothing. If you bring some home, it won’t take long for you to have a full-blown infestation. Your risk of an infestation increases any time you visit a location that has bed bugs.

General Information

Bed bugs are flat, small, six-legged parasites. They require a blood meal in order to continue with their development. Because they need you to survive, they are programed to hunt you down. They can smell your body order, detect your breathing, and feel the heat that comes off of your body. If you have bed bugs in your bedroom and you decide to sleep downstairs, they either wait you out or will follow you. Bed bugs can go several months without eating, or they will travel several feet each night until they find where you are sleeping.

The Signs of an Infestation

In order to determine if you have bed bugs, you need to look for the signs. The first thing you will notice is that you are getting new bites each night. Bed bugs are lazy and will often feed multiple times in the same spot. You will notice clusters, or lines of itchy red bites. Being bit is the first sign, and it should cause you to take a deeper look. You will want to pay close attention to your box springs, bed frame, and any furniture you have around your bed. Bed bugs like to lay eggs on hard surfaces, which are out of the light. You might want to grab a flashlight and check in all the dark corners of your furniture. Remember to look behind any pictures and even in your electrical outlets. The third sign is if you see an actual bed bug.

Treatment

At Pointe Pest Control, we use a variety of treatments to ensure the eradication of bed bugs. Since bed bugs are now immune to many of the over the counter pesticides, we use a different enemy. Bed bugs can survive temperatures up to 122 degrees. We heat your home up past that point. We also use a variety of other techniques to ensure a comprehensive treatment plan. When you go with Pointe Pest Control, you can say goodbye (and good riddance) to bed bugs.
