Five Reasons You May Need Olympia Spider Control

It is not uncommon for people to fear spiders and for some, spiders trigger a legitimate phobia. Even if you are not fearful of spiders, it is still natural to become startled when you see one scurrying in front of you. If you see more than a few spiders in your home, you likely need Olympia spider control. First, though, it is important to know why you are finding so many of these creepy crawlies in your house.

There is Too Much Clutter in the Home

After a spider makes their way into your home, they will look for a hiding spot. Once they find one, they will camp out there and give birth to babies, perhaps lots of them. This will only further your spider control problem. Clearing your home of clutter is one of the best DIY methods of Olympia spider control. Remove piles of books, magazines, papers, and cardboard boxes. Before reaching into a pile of clutter, first look to see if spiders are using it for a hiding spot, so you do not get bitten. While there are not many venomous spiders in Olympia, the black widow and yellow sac spider can pose a threat.

They Have Easy Access from Outside

Generally speaking, spiders prefer to be outdoors. However, they will try to find their way inside if the weather turns cooler, or they run out of a food source outdoors. To prevent them from coming in and calling your home theirs, a thorough inspection is required.

Use weather stripping to seal any gaps you find on the exterior of your home and if you do not have screens on doors and windows, now is the time to install them. Caulk any holes you find in the walls or foundation of your home, and call in a professional if you need more than just a little caulk. The stronger the barrier you can create between spiders and the inside of your home, the fewer of them you will see.

There are Unclean Areas in the Home

Keeping a home clean at all times may seem like a full-time job and to keep all areas pristine, impossible. However, regular cleaning such as sweeping your kitchen floor, vacuuming, and dusting are important measures when trying to keep spiders at bay. Spiders particularly like to hide under furniture, and they will weave their webs in the corner of ceilings, and in light fixtures, so make sure you pay close attention to these areas.

It is also important to clean up spills and crumbs immediately so they do not provide an attraction for spiders in your home, or those that want to come inside. While it is a difficult task to keep things clean at all times, it is an important measure in Olympia spider control.

There are No Preventative Measures

Like with any pest, the best form of Olympia spider control is to prevent them from coming into your home in the first place. Examining the exterior of your home, sealing gaps and cracks, and keeping the home clean, are all great preventative measures to take when trying to keep spiders outside where they belong. However, there are other things you should do that will help bolster those efforts and make sure spiders cannot come inside.

It is important to keep all trees and shrubs outside of your home trimmed to ensure they do not come close to the exterior walls of the home. Spiders also love to hide in the shelter of firewood, so you should also keep these piles at least 20 feet away from the exterior of your home. This will help keep termites and other pests away from your home, too. Make sure you keep the flue on the chimney closed when you are not using it, and do not leave the doors open for more than a few seconds. Spiders are just as likely to simply wander in through the front door as you are.
