If you were Lewis and Clark camping in Pasco Washington you would expect they might have problems with bed bugs in their bedrolls. However, the last thing you want in your comfortable, modern home is to wake up in the morning and find a bunch of swollen bite marks across your body.
Attack of the 5-millimeter vampires.
These miniature vampires, commonly known as bed bugs, are nocturnal, usually coming out only at night. All they want is your blood, their sole source of food. They can feed in five to ten day cycles and then can go dormant and hibernate for up to five months, then return to feed on you again.
Like Lewis and Clark, they like to travel but they don’t need Sacagawea to find you. They can invade even the cleanest homes, hitching rides on clothing, luggage, and pets that have been exposed to an infested area. They quickly create shelters, then go on the hunt, and start their procreation process. A female can lay three to four eggs a day and in several weeks you could have generations of bed bugs living with you in your furniture and bed.
