Springtails In The Grass

If you ever want to see a springtail, spend a little bit of time near your grass. You will see a tiny bug that jump like a flea when it is disturbed. The good news about springtails is that they do not bite, or spread disease. Even though they don’t spread diseases, seeing hundreds of little springtails wandering around inside of your home can be a nasty site. When it comes to controlling invading pests, you can rely on the professionals with Pointe Pest Control. We eliminate ants to springtails and everything in between.

General Information

Springtails are small and can range in color from white, grey to brown. They are a bit smaller than the lettering on a coin. Springtails are able to jump extremely well. They have a spring loaded appendage on the bottom side of their abdomen called a furcular. Their furcular can catapult them up to six inches. That is an incredible jump for such little insect. Springtails need damp areas to live. They are most common found in flowerbeds and your grass. Springtails eat mold, pollen, and decaying matter. If houseplants are overwatered, you are creating a perfect habitat for springtails to live.

The Signs of a Springtails Infestation

The only sign that you have an infestation of springtails is by seeing the springtails. If you have them inside of your bathroom, the first place you will want to check is under your sink. If you have a leaky pipe and it is causing mold or mildew growth, you have found the source of the springtails. The same can be said of your kitchen. Springtails require moisture. They will not be able to survive very long in dry areas.

Springtails Treatment

One of the best ways to reduce springtail infestations is to fix anything that is leaky. If you have leaky pipes, fix them yourself or call a plumber. Drying out the areas under your sink and keeping them dry will eliminate their habitat. If you have springtails that have infested your house plants, this is because you are watering your house plants too much. Reduce your watering so the upper part of the soil can dry out. Remember, one of the best ways to control springtails is to eliminate moisture. Still though, you might eliminate moisture, and still have a springtail infestation inside of your home. This is because you still have flowerbeds and a lawn. You can reduce the amount of water you are giving your plants, but you don’t want to kill your grass. Springtails are extremely small, so they can get into your home through the tiniest gaps of your doors and windows. If you are tired of springtails and you want them out of your house, you can count on Pointe Pest Control to provide exceptional service.
