Fleas. Small Pest, Big Problems

While they might be small, having an infestation of fleas is a big problem. Your pets suffer, and you and your kids will not enjoy the itchy welts that come from flea bites. Since we understand pests, we want to help you solve your flea infestation problem. Our technicians are ready to give you a hand and eliminate any flea infestation no matter how severe it has become.

General Information

Fleas are parasites. In order to grow the next generation of fleas, they require blood. Fleas will seek out pets, people, even mice or rats. They don’t care whose blood they steal, but they are on a mission to find it. In order to find a victim, fleas can sense vibrations, exhaled carbon dioxide, and body heat. In order to get around, fleas use their powerful legs to jump. As such, fleas are among the best jumpers in the insect world. A single flea can lay 20 to 50 eggs in a single day. If you think that treating your pet will solve the flea problem, think again. Flea eggs drop off of the host, so treating the spaces around where your pets (or you) live are vital to getting rid of a flea infestation.

The Signs of an Infestation

There are a few signs to look for in order to know if you have a flea infestation. If you notice that your cat or dog is scratching a lot, that is when you take the time to look a bit deeper at the situation. If you begin to notice flecks of brown or black embedded in your pet’s fur that is another sign. Fleas defecate on their host. Usually the fecal flecks fall off onto the ground to provide food for the newly hatched larva, but often you will find flea poop on your pet. Still though, since cats and dogs love rolling around, it is often difficult to know if you have an infestation of fleas. Once you have begun to notice a few of the signs, you need to get serious and grab a pair of long white socks. With the socks on your feet walk slowly around your carpet and then pause to inspect your feet. If you notice little insects that jump off your socks, there is a high chance that you have an infestation of fleas.

Treatment

Treatments that target only the adults do not work. You see, flea eggs and larva are not susceptible to the common control methods that eradicate adult fleas. Killing only the adults means that you will soon have a flea problem again. If you want to get serious about eliminating fleas, you need to call in the professionals with Pointe Pest Control. Our technicians understand the lifecycle of fleas. We know how they live and we know how to eradicate them from your home. From egg to adult, our treatments target fleas in all of their life stages. When you want effective flea control, you need to call in the professionals with Pointe Pest Control.
