General Information

Ticks are small, flat, and have eight legs. They range in color from black to brown and even reddish. Ticks are parasites. The only way they can move through their life cycle is by stealing blood from a host. Since ticks do not jump and lack wings, they rely on their host for transportation. They end up inside of your home when they fall off of pets or from rodents that have invaded your home. Most tick species are not equipped to live indoors, but some species like the soft tick, will invade your home if they sense a host. Both hard and soft ticks are vectors for disease. They transmit nasty illnesses like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. If an infected tick bites you, it will transfer the illness to you through its salvia.

The Signs of an Infestation

The best way to determine if you have an infestation of ticks is to find them in your home or out in your yard. They overwinter in dense piles of leaves, or other vegetation. Ticks can infest your home because of a rodent infestation. If you have mice or rats in your home, it is very possible that they will be bringing ticks into your home as well. If you have ticks in your yard, you will often see them on grasses or shrubs. They latch onto the vegetation with four of their legs and keep the other four outstretched, ready to grab onto anything that passes by. This behavior is called questing. If you do not want to be incorporated into a part of their quest, you need to call in Pointe Pest Control.
