Mole – The Yard Destroyer

Moles have been depicted in cartoons as these lovable, chubby, slightly vision impaired creatures that are absolutely impossible not to love. But this is not real life, because in real life, moles are naughty and destructive in your yard and garden. Not to mention, that in real life, moles aren’t even that cute. They aren’t chubby or charming, they are just annoying vermin. While they aren’t commonly infesting inside homes, they can become quite a nuisance in your yard. You want lush, beautiful lawn but when moles are nearby, you will find your lawn looks uneven, dead in some places and ugly. When you wants a beautiful yard and are trying your best to make your garden a thing of beauty, a mole infestation will surely put a stop to that. You need expert help when it comes to moles and at Pointe Pest Control, we know exactly what to do.

General Information

Moles are certainly strange looking rodents. They aren’t exactly pet store quality rodents. Their potato-shaped bodies, pointed muzzles, tiny eyes and giant clawed paws make them an unattractive sight. With their massive, flipper-like paws, they basically swim underground through the soft soil. They are the most active in the morning and feed on grubs, worms and other insects. It is a myth that moles are blind and eyeless. They do, in fact, have little, bitty eyes and though they are colorblind, they can see, albeit very poorly. Moles can only see light and movement, relying mostly on their sense of smell and instinct to find food and navigate through the tunnels they dig in your yard. Moles have such an incredible sense of smell, they actually smell in stereo, meaning they can locate food by the smell arriving at each nostril. This is pretty fascinating but that doesn’t mean you want these mammals hanging out in your yard. They have got to go.

The Signs of an Infestation

The most telltale sign you have a mole infestation are the molehills they create, which look like small, dirt mound volcanos in your yard. Your yard may also appear dead and dying in some places. It is hard enough battling weeds and crabgrass in your lawn but if you are also struggling with moles who are killing your lawn and popping up little molehills everywhere. You may also notice that there are vein-like patterns in your lawn where the grass is dying. This is basically evidence that the moles are tunneling below. When they create tunnels below, this disrupts the roots of the grass and kills it above ground. You may be scratching your head, wondering why your lawn is dying but unbeknownst to you, moles are tunneling and gorging themselves fat right below your feet.
