Ant Species
There are 700 species of ants found around the world, but only 25 species infest homes. It’s the most numerous insect in the world and found on every continent on the planet, except Antarctica. They are attracted to the scent of food and when they find it, they use pheromones to signal the rest of the colony, which is how ant infestations escalate quickly.
Types of Rodents
Mice are extremely success mammals and are found almost everywhere. Their scientific name, Musculus, means “little thief”. Mice are small rodents with a pointed nose, a furry round body, with large ears and a long tail.
Voles, also called meadow mice, are small rodents that are often mistaken for a house mouse. While they share many similarities in size, voles are and have a much shorter tail. Voles prefer to live outdoors and can cause problems to landscapes and gardens.
Norway rats have a grey to brown body and are like to live at the ground level. They often live underground in sewers or in burrows. Like all rats, Norway rats transmit a number of unpleasant bacteria, viruses, and pathogens.
If you hear a lot of noise in your attic, you might have an infestation of roof rats. Roof rats are also called black rats, or ship rats. They have a longer tail than a Norway rat and are usually darker in color and have a sleeker build. Roof rats are adept climbers.
Deer mice have greyish to brown fur, while their underbody is lighter in color, usually white. When it comes to bad pests, there are few things as damaging and nasty as the furry little deer mouse.
Moles are certainly strange looking rodents. They aren’t exactly pet store quality rodents. Their potato shaped bodies, pointed muzzles, tiny eyes and giant clawed paws make them an unattractive sight.
Gophers spend most of their life living underground. They eat a variety of seeds, berries, roots, bulbs, vegetation, and even insects.
