Deer Mice – True Home Wreckers

When it comes to bad pests, there are few things as damaging and nasty as the furry little deer mouse. While cartoons might portray mice as cute and lovable, they are in fact home wreckers with an appetite for stealing food and spreading a variety of diseases and parasites. If your home has an infestation of deer mice, Pointe Pest Control is here to give you the help you need to eliminate any deer mouse infestation.

General Information

Deer mice have greyish to brown fur, while their underbody is lighter in color, usually white. While we don’t recommend getting close enough to notice, deer mice do not have very much fur on their ears. Their eyes are beady and black, while their face is angular and pointed. Like all rodents, deer mice can transmit a number of really bad diseases. One of the most common diseases spread by deer mice is Hantavirus. When cleaning up after deer mice, you should never sweep or vacuum, because that is what causes the virus to become airborne. When cleaning up after mice, make certain to use a solution of bleach and water.

The Signs of an Infestation

Since mice are secretive, sometimes you will only be altered to their presence if you see signs of an infestation. As disturbing as it sounds, one of the most common signs of deer mice will be their droppings. Their droppings are rod shaped, about the size of a sprinkle, with pointed ends. A single deer mouse can produce upwards of 75 droppings in a single day. You will most often find the droppings along the edges of your walls. Deer mice also love to chew. If you begin noticing gnaw marks on your food containers, furniture, and cereal boxes, then you have another big sign of an infestation. The last sign is actually seeing a deer mouse. If you see a deer mouse then you definitely have a situation on your hands. That is when you need to call in the professionals with Pointe Pest Control.
