Ants Pose A Risk

While they are quite small they can cause big problems.  Ants are known to cause contamination of food, may cause painful stings and bites, and often cause damage to property.  

• Ants often carry fungus and bacteria along with dangerous pathogens that can be spread around your home, or worse in your pantry.
• Anyone who has been bitten by a fire ant will tell you they are no joking matter.  Even regular ants found in Lebanon, OR can bite.  People allergic to bee stings are often also allergic to ant bites.
• Certain types of ants, such as carpenter ants, can cause significant damage to your home or business.  They like to nest in decaying and damp wood, so basements and crawl spaces are prime territories for them. 

Ants Are Stubborn

Despite their size ants are incredibly tough and their colonies are hard to exterminate.  If you’ve found some ants in or around your home, there are likely thousands you cannot see.  They build large nests underground and use pheromones to signal their colonies. 

All ants need is the tiniest of cracks around a door, window, or in the foundation of your home.  In no time, it seems, you’re seeing them all around your kitchen, bathroom, and anywhere people may drop some crumbs.

Common Types of Ants

The most common types of ants in Oregon are the odorous house ant and sugar ant.  Both of these species of ants can be an invasive pest in your home or business.  Odorous house ants are justifiably called such as they smell like rotting coconut when they are crushed. Sugar ant queens are resistant to store-bought ant pesticides. That means that DIY exterminators have a hard time completely eradicating the infestation.
