Local Hood River Bed Bug Control

There’s nothing grosser than bed bugs. The idea of sleeping with tiny vampires that bite you in the night is enough to make you sick to your stomach. But like human vampires, these tiny creatures have a number of weaknesses that a profession pest control specialist can exploit to rid your home of them.

If you have bed bugs in your home, the Hood River pest control experts at Pointe Pest Control can get rid of your bed bug problem for good. Give us a call or contact us online to set up an appointment.

Understanding Bed Bug Treatments

There are a number of DIY methods out there for controlling bed bugs. Unfortunately, none of them work. The problem is that it will likely take multiple treatments to rid your home of bed bugs and these DIY methods don’t come close to providing the kind of thorough extermination that professional methods do. Sure, you can pay $1,500 for all the equipment necessary to do the job yourself, but we already have the equipment and the training necessary to get the job done safely and efficiently. It isn’t worth going out and purchasing sprays and pesticides that will only take care of half the problem.

Whole Room Heat Treatments

You’ve likely heard that there are two different treatments for living adult bugs and eggs. That’s true. However, heat will kill off both adult bed bugs and eggs at the same time. The idea is to raise the temperature high enough (between 135°F and 145°F) to kill off all the bed bugs in the room at once. This treatment is highly effective because it doesn’t give the bed bugs any place to retreat to and it only requires one step. Whole room treatments generally take between six and eight hours. For obvious reasons, you will need to take some precautions before we begin this treatment.

The downside to this method is that your entire house will need to be treated. Since the heat raises the temperatures to uncomfortable levels, the bed bugs will treat (if they are able) to another part of the house. The eggs, of course, cannot retreat. Rooms not treated with heat will need to be treated another way. But it is a very effective method against both adult bed bugs and their eggs. Generally, we will attempt to seal the room with insecticide.

Insecticide Treatments for Bed Bugs

Insecticide treatments are effective, but they need to be employed correctly in order to be effective. Most homeowners are not professional pest control specialists so when they kill off even a majority of the bed bug infestation, they don’t realize that they’ve essentially wasted their time and money. The bed bugs will come back in full force. This is also true if they’ve left behind any of the eggs.

Professional pest control specialists use three different types of insecticide when dealing with bed bugs. These are:

  • A contact insecticide that instantly kills the bed bugs
  • A residual insecticide that takes care of those left behind
  • A dust for getting inside cracks and crevices

These insecticides may also be employed in tandem with heat treatments or other methods of pest control. The residual insecticide takes care of the eggs once they hatch. The babies are killed on contact and they don’t live long enough to reproduce.

Using insecticides generally require multiple treatments, but you should notice results right away. On the other hand, insecticide treatments can be done more quickly than heat treatments. It only takes about a half an hour to spray the room and you generally will need to stay out of the room for a couple of hours.
