Cockroach Information

ou flip on your lights, and you watch in horror as hundreds of little insects go running to their hiding places under your refrigerator, stove and cupboards. Simply put, cockroaches are nasty. They spend time eating rotten food and sewage and then wander across your kitchen table. Cockroaches spread a whole series of food borne illnesses. First off, if you have an infestation of cockroaches there is something you can do to get them out of your home. For cockroach control, think Pointe Pest Control. We make it our business to eradicate household pests like cockroaches.

General Information

There are a few varieties of cockroach that are happy to infest your home. Some have wings, others do not. Cockroaches have tan to brown colored bodies and can range in size from teeny tiny to a bit bigger than a quarter. Some cockroaches lay large egg sacs called ootheca. An American cockroach egg sac can contain nearly one hundred eggs. In a few weeks those newly hatched cockroaches are ready to lay their own egg sacs. When it comes to cockroaches, a few individual insects can turn into a massive infestation in hardly any time at all. Cockroaches have a massive variable diet. They will eat anything you will, but they can also eat soap, toothpaste, garbage, dander, grease, sewage, feathers, glue, and even hair. Their ability to eat just about any organic material makes them difficult to eliminate. Even clean homes can become infested.

The Signs of an Infestation

Since cockroaches like to hide from light, you might not notice an initial infestation. As time progresses and the number increase, they become more desperate to find food because of an increase in competition. This is when you will begin to notice cockroaches wandering around you home in the middle of the day. If you see cockroaches, you are only seeing a fraction of the total problem. Another sign of an infestation is to find their feces. Cockroach feces look like coffee grounds of bits of pepper. You will notice these bits of feces all over your cupboards, countertops, floors, and anywhere you have food. Another sign is their smell. Cockroaches produce an oily musty smell. As the infestation gets more severe, the smell becomes more intense.

Treatment

Many of the rumors you have heard about cockroaches are true. They can in fact, survive for a while without their head.
