Wenatchee Wasp Control

Of all the pests that can invade a yard, wasps are some of the most annoying. Wasps are not known for transmitting diseases to humans in the same way as mosquitoes, but they still have a long stinger that can sting repeatedly. A wasp’s sting is extremely painful and can become red and swollen. Most people try to avoid these stings at all costs, and the best way to do that is to prevent wasps from invading your space in the first place. Removing and preventing wasps is never something that should be done on your own, but a Wenatchee wasp control company can help.

The Danger of Wasps

The biggest danger of having wasps in the yard is that they are extremely aggressive and territorial. Once a wasp has decided to make a home in someone’s yard, there is little the person can do about it, and other wasps in the colony will soon come to help out. Giant nests are created and there is often more than just one. Wasps heavily protect these nests, going on the attack and using their sharp stingers on anyone or anything that threatens their home.

This is particularly problematic for people that want to enjoy their yard and their space because wasps make that virtually impossible. When a person is allergic to wasp stings, as many people are, the consequences of an attack can be deadly. Even when a person is not allergic to wasp venom, these insects are very different from bees and they can sting again and again. Wasps also attack in packs and when so many wasps sting repeatedly, it can take a person several weeks or even months to fully recover.

Identifying a Wasp Problem

Wasps are not like other pests. If you have a wasp problem around your home, you are likely to know it fairly soon. The first sign that you have a wasp problem is that there are suddenly lots of the flying insects around. You may even see a nest hanging from the eaves or built up along the side of your home.

While most people identify signs of chewed wood with termites, this is a common sign of a wasp problem, as well. Wasps use chewed wood to create their nests in many cases and so, they will chew tunnels and holes through the wooden exterior parts of your home.

Anyone that notices these signs around the home should contact a Wenatchee wasp control company as soon as possible. Removing nests around the home is a very dangerous job due to the fact that wasps defend their nests so aggressively. Trying to get rid of the actual insects on your own is also extremely challenging, so it is best to leave it to a professional.

Preventing Wasps Around the Home

Of course, the best way to deal with wasps is to avoid them altogether. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do around the home to prevent these pests.

  • Soap and water: Although a simple solution, this one is sometimes effective. Fill a spray bottle with two tablespoons of dish soap and water and mix well. Spray small nests with this mixture and it will clog the breathing holes wasps rely on, killing them almost instantly. Placing a bit of peppermint oil in the mixture can also prevent wasps by spraying it around your home.
  • Keep waste bins securely sealed: Wasps are notorious scavengers and they will eat nearly anything they come across. Garbage is especially attractive to wasps because it is fairly readily available and has a mixture of food sources that wasps love. Use a waste bin that has a tight-fitting lid so it can prevent smells from escaping, which is enough to attract wasps.
  • Seal off entry points: Wasps in the yard are bad enough, but it is even worse when they make their way into your home. To prevent this from happening, find any seals, cracks, or holes around the windows and doors of your home and seal them off, eliminating a wasp’s point of entry.

Even these prevention methods can be somewhat difficult to tackle on your own if wasps have already made their way into your yard. A professional can help remove the pests and prevent them from coming back.
