Spiders may make you jump when seeing one in your home, but some of the most common spiders in Walla Walla pose much more risk than that. Certain spiders are quite venomous, particularly the Hobo spider, which is seen frequently throughout all of Washington. The Hobo spider also bears a very close resemblance to the Hololena spider, another arachnid that is commonly seen in Walla Walla, but that is perfectly harmless. If you come upon a spider in your home, particularly one you think might be dangerous, it is important to call a pest control specialist that can remove the spiders and stop them from coming back for good.

Types of Spiders in Walla Walla

The two most common types of spiders in Walla Walla are the Hololena spider and the Hobo spider. Both types of spiders spin funnel webs, so they can lurk inside and jump on their prey. The Hololena spider is non-aggressive and typically becomes trapped in sinks and bathtubs.

The Hobo spider, on the other hand, poses a significant danger for anyone that is around one. The Hobo has a very powerful bite and its venom can cause individuals to become very sick. While the bite of this spider is not especially painful, within 30 minutes the area around the bite will turn red and become swollen. This swelling can extend up to six inches on the body. Within a couple of days, blisters will form and then break, which could create an open ulcer that requires surgery. Even when people do not need invasive treatment, they can still experience nausea, weakness, vision impairment, and severe headaches.

Hobo spiders also become extremely aggressive when they feel threatened. They do not typically climb vertical surfaces, such as walls, but are more likely to be found on and in flooring.

It is important to call a Walla Walla pest control specialist any time you suspect one of these spiders in your home. These spiders look extremely similar to each other and the only way to tell the difference is by looking for the ‘V’ marking the Hobo spider has on their abdomen. A spider control technician can identify the spider, determine if you have a problem, and solve it if you do.

The Problems of DIY-ing a Spider Problem

There are countless spider control products on the market but few, if any, are truly effective at eradicating spider problems, and will not keep the spiders from coming back. Many species of spiders have become immune to the most common pesticides and so, you cannot rely on these to remove spiders from your home. Also, even when a pesticide is effective, that effectiveness will only last for so long and pretty soon, you will have to deal with a spider problem all over again.

Many people want to try natural DIY options, such as spraying chestnut oil or peppermint oil around the home. Spiders do not like this sense and so theoretically, they will keep spiders out of your home. Unfortunately, these methods have not been proven effective and scientific studies have shown mixed results

What Does a Spider Control Specialist Do?

Although many people would not hesitate to call a pest control specialist for a termite infestation, they sometimes wonder why they need a spider control specialist.

The first thing a spider control specialist will do is inspect the area. Pest control technicians know the most common entry points into the home for spiders, and will inspect them all to find the crack or gap that is allowing the spider in. While spiders are resistant to most pesticides on the market, the formula pest control specialists use is much more powerful and much more effective against spiders.

Pest control specialists will also restrict the entry points once they are found, and use other preventative techniques that will keep spiders out of your home once and for all. This complete and thorough treatment is a much more effective form of spider prevention than anything you can find on the market.
