General Information

Sting bugs come in a variety of different colors. Some of the more common varieties are the green stink bug and the invasive, brown marmorated stink bug. Their bodies are shield shaped and look like small pentagons. Sting bugs have piercing mouth parts that they use to penetrate fruit, vegetables and other vegetation in order to drink sap and plant fluids. Since they are insects, they have six legs. They even have a pair of antennae.

The Signs of an Infestation

If your vegetable garden or fruit trees are being hit, you will notice they are covered in small bruises. Fruit and vegetables will often rot after they have been attacked. Stink bugs lay a large number of eggs on the underside of plant leaves. They will be arranged in different patterns depending on the species of stink bug, but you will notice a lot of eggs. We have seen entire sides of homes covered in stink bugs. As winter approaches the adult stink bugs will look for a sheltered place to overwinter. If they can find a way into your attic, they will swarm it in vast numbers. Sometimes the heat from your home can cause them to wake up and find a way into the main part of your home.
