Carpenter Ants: Exquisite Tunnels and Galleries
Carpenter Ants are large black ants indigenous to our area. They prefer dead, damp wood to build their nest. Carpenter ant colonies are known to have more than one satellite, extending inside and out of your home. These nasty little ants work hard to create galleries and tunnels through your walls, causing minor to severe damage.
Unlike termites, they do not eat the wood inside your home. They feed on dead insects which provides them with a source of protein and sugar. The Carpenter Ants life cycle begins with flight, and occurs in late spring to early summer. After taking flight and mating, the male dies and the female’s wings fall off, leaving the female searching for a location for a new colony. Carpenter Ants life span is approximately 6-12 weeks; however, our beautiful cold snowy winters are a secret fountain of youth for them and expand their life up to ten months. The exterminators at our locations have the tools and expertise to help eradicate your carpenter ant problem.
